On Friday, July 6th, a three-member delegation of "Air- Born"
attended the celebration ceremony for the 60th anniversary of the HAF
339 Sqn’s establishment.
The event, which took place in the Air Base of Andravida (117 Combat Wing) was
attended by the HAF Chief of Staff, Lt. Gen. Antonios Tsantirakis, the
Commanders of the 117 CW, of the Air Tactics Centre and of the 116 CW, former
Commanders, Officers, Supervisors and civil personnel currently serving or
having served in the Squadron, as well as by committees delegated by the
Hellenic Air Force and the Hellenic Tactical Air Force. We were delighted to see
the old friends, pilots of the Squadron, since it was equipped with F-84F
aircrafts.
During the ceremony, a demonstration flight was performed by a four-aircraft
formation of F-4E AUP, especially arranged for this day. After its completion,
we had the chance to discuss with the current and former staff of the 339Sqn.
Our Association, in recognition of its work all these years, offered to the
Commander of the 339Sqn, Lt. Colonel Elias Yiannakeas, three (3) photographs (on
the right) from the private collection kept by one of our members.
We wish to the staff of 339Sqn. “Safe
Landings”, and we would like to thank its Commander, Lt. Colonel Elias Yiannakeas,
2nd Lt. G. Feloutzis, and the HAF Colonel P.R. Director Mr. Michael Skliros, for
honouring us with this invitation and for the great organization.
